Cochran Family poses for a photograph in front of family home
Northwest Ohio, 1893

"Little House on the Corner"

William Russell Cochran poses with his wife and nine children in front of one of their their farm houses on Defiance Trail, Scotts Crossing, Allen County, Ohio, Lima, Elida, Delphos. 1800s, 1890s historical stock photograph.

My Mama said her family built this house for the Cochrans to retire in and they called it the "little house on the corner."

Her mother (my grandma) is noted "infant Ruth" and her grandfather noted wearing "derby Ulysses Marriott."

The above photo is one of the 500 scans and digital restorations I did for a 45–minute family documentary movie DVD.

132 years later (2025):
the little house on the corner is still there
if anyone thinks they can beat Father Time:

The little house still sits catty corner from the "old grange hall" as my Mama called it and added her mother "Ruth" moved into the grange hall after they sold the farm.

The field pictured to the right of the grange hall leads about 150 yards up to the old barn and family farmhouse.

"The old grange hall"

The so-called grange hall (5498 Defiance Trail N) is the house that State Road looks like it's going to run right into the garage, but takes a slight jog at the stop sign to miss it.

The cross streets are Defiance Trail North and State RD.

Crazy place to build a house....

MY STORY:

In about 1976, I was test driving a late model Toronado from a nearby dealer. I pulled up to the stop sign right beside the grange hall -- and my car died at the stop sign and wouldn't start. It was winter, lightly snowing, and the sun had just set. I had to knock on the door of the grange house to call the dealer to come get me and their car.

I remember my Mom telling me Grandma used to live in that house, though I didn't recall the farm and little house were right there until I interviewed my Mom for the documentary ... it was very strange the car died right there.

I still think about that.

"The Old Barn"

The old barn featured in my documentary is a right turn here (north) a 100 yards or so on the left.
