POWWOW Pow-wow

POWWOW REGALIA

Professional powwow dancer's awesome colorful tribal pow-wow regalias.

This is an exceptional example of a professional competitive dancer's cultural and tribal regalia in action during big-prize-money competition in Southern California.

Photographed on an Indian reservation pow wow grounds in 2000.

PRODUCTION NOTES:

Camera: Mamiya 646 1000s medium film format VPS 160 (color negative), 150mm leaf shutter lens at f/5.6, Metz CT60 flash lit the front (strong shadow from backlighting) -- nearly full frame image.

Scanned: On Nikon Coolscan 8000 film scanner at 4000 spi (optical resolution of scanner) into Photoshop RAW format,

Photoshop: Edited in Adobe Camera RAW, 16-bit ProPhotoRGB, in Photoshop adjustment layers to preserve as much original color and pixel quality as possible.

Archived: In .psd adjustment layers (16 bit RGB) -- when I opened this master file back up in 2026 to post this higher resolution copy -- all my edits were in place and I was able to re-tweek them on much newer generation LCD IPS screens.

Photo, scan, design by professional pow-wow photographer Gary G. Ballard, San Diego, California.
