Old Cochran-Buettner barn in Delphos, Ohio, 1920, pictures young children, horse and buggy beside vintage automobile, electric wiring to barn, winter snow on ground -- Defiance Trail family-owned farm, close to Elida and Van Wert County, Lima, Allen County historical society Delphos historical pictures, 1800s, 1900s.

The Buettner-Cochran old barn was built in 1918 with an 18-inch concert floor and is still being used in 2025 on a working farm (see Google Earth photos below).

The old historic barn is located about 150 yards north of Defiance Trail N and State Road intersection, in Delphos, Ohio. The barn is pictured here circa 1920 some 150 feet to the left of the family farmhouse:

FAMILY FARMHOUSE 1920

Family Farmhouse:

Mom, Mary Buettner, was born in this family farm house in 1927. I remember her taking me and my four brothers and sisters to the property around 1966. It was abandoned and dilapidated by then, but she drank water from the old well -- bragged it was the best water in the county --- and told us how happy she was to have us visit the family home where she was raised.

Mary visited the farm in 2003 and took this photo with one of her great grandsons, Alex, in the area behind the old house. She and her dad planted this maple tree some 70 years ago in 1933, she told Alex and the family.

The Defiance Trail Cochran family farm is currently owned by Thompson Seed Farm, Inc., of Delphos Ohio. They have apparently renovated the old historic barn and painted it white, gray color with white roof. My ancestors would be proud it is being so well taken care of and preserved.

WHERE ARE THE OLD BARN AND FAMILY FARMHOUSE LOCATED?

The large 106-year-old historic gray white barn is located 5500 Defiance Trail less than a 1/4 mile south of highway 309, the railroad tracks at Scott's Crossing. The crossroads 150 yards south of the barn are Defiance Trail North and State Road. The farmhouse has long since been demolished and the rich fertile land is still working farmland.

UNIQUE CROSSROADS:

"The old grange hall"

The so-called grange hall (5498 Defiance Trail N) is the house that State Road looks like it's going to run right into the garage, but takes a slight jog at the stop sign to miss it.

The cross streets are Defiance Trail North and State RD.

The antique barn photograph is one of the 500 scans and digital restorations I did for a 45–minute family documentary movie DVD.
