REZ RAT

With "Rez Rat" branded into his custom tribal regalia and Native Pride emblazoned on his hat, OJ Sandoval is pictured on the Sycuan Kumeyaay Indian reservation with his younger sister, Alanna, who is wearing a Barona Powwow sash, fancy shawl, traditional Indian braids and an accent of face paint by her eyes.

This beautiful California Indian imagery is part of a 190,000-megabyte digital archive Gary Ballard is building from more than 30,000 original film negatives he took for a client over a 13 years as an independent photographer — both of these digital images were originally photographed on medium-format negative films and scanned in very high pixel resolutions as part of this decades-long tribal historical project.
